Client news: Blue Horseshoe transforms national beer distributor’s inventory, shipping systems

J.J. Taylor Companies started out in 1958 as a small beer distributor in northern Massachusetts. Today, the company is one of the top beer distributors in the United States. J.J. Taylor employs more than 900 in Florida and Minnesota and sells a mix of domestic, import and craft brewery brands.

With company expansion and increased demand for high-quality customer service, J.J. Taylor wasn’t able to manage its dated inventory control practices, manual replenishment and shipping processes to meet its high standards of quality, accuracy and customer service. So the company turned to Blue Horseshoe.

Blue Horseshoe has transformed J.J. Taylor’s manual inventory and shipping systems into efficiently automated and highly accurate processes. Blue Horseshoe retooled operational practices and implemented Manhattan Associates’ SCALE Warehouse Management System to work in conjunction with existing systems, including Rutherford’s route accounting solution, eoStar and Vertique’s automated case pick material handling device. SCALE’s online environment integrated well with J.J. Taylor’s existing technology, allowing for easy user adoption. Blue Horseshoe also developed a best-in-class operational model and continues to work with J.J. Taylor to replicate in additional facilities across its existing Florida and Minnesota footprint.

“Our solutions have eliminated time-consuming and costly manual inventory processes and created an environment that empowers management to make effective decisions,” said Josh Holmes, account director and partner at Blue Horseshoe. “J.J. Taylor can now accurately replenish its forward-picking areas and existing automated pallet-building devices and electronically manage its route/stop sequencing, outbound dock and systematic loading operations to assure order accuracy.”

Blue Horseshoe, a software solutions company, is in the final stages of implementing extensive software solutions for national transportation and warehousing company Biagi Brothers.

Biagi Brothers is a Napa, Calif., company that operates more than 300 semis and 700 tractor-trailers involved in national interstate and intrastate liquid, bulk and common freight carrier transportation and warehousing services. Client news: Nation’s biggest battery retailer improves operations with Blue Horseshoe software solution

Batteries Plus, the nation’s largest all-battery retailer, has improved efficiency, accuracy and cycle time for purchase order processing by integrating a new supplier management solution with real-time reporting developed by Indianapolis-based Blue Horseshoe.

Prior to implementing Blue Horseshoe’s Vendor Portal, Batteries Plus manually managed its purchase order-to-payment process. This made it difficult for the company to work with vendors to place and manage purchase orders, ensure timely and accurate documentation to U.S. Customs to meet the requirements of new regulations in 2010 and track metrics of their other vendors during the purchase process.

Vendor Portal is a software solution that provides global visibility to the health of a supplier network, a real-time dashboard and reporting on individual supplier performance that enables companies to identify their top suppliers. It provides information that companies can leverage in negotiating supplier contracts, integrates seamlessly into a new or existing enterprise system and provides a live, automated global view of a company’s supply chain.

Within six months, Batteries Plus will roll out Vendor Portal to all domestic suppliers and expand the solution by implementing a new quality control step in the company’s overall work flow.
