Yes, the study says the number of kids with ADHD today is a sizable increase from a few years earlier. It also says that government scientists think the increase might be explained by growing awareness and better screening.

“The new estimate comes from a survey released Wednesday that found an increase in ADHD of about 22 percent from 2003 to the most recent survey in 2007-08. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention interviewed parents of children ages 4 through 17 in both studies. Researchers calculate about 5.4 million kids have been diagnosed with ADHD, which suggests that about 1 million more children have the disorder than a few years earlier.”

With ADHD always a hot button in the news, a client of ours poses a groundbreaking, non-medical approach to helping children with ADHD and other learning difficulties — Brain Balance Achievement Centers.

Brain Balance is a 12-week supplemental afterschool program, which first includes a comprehensive assessment of all areas of a child’s brain and body function. Then, by integrating sensory motor and cognitive exercises along with dietary change, Brain Balance Achievement Centers are able to correct the child’s underlying brain imbalance, improve function and reduce/eliminate negative behaviors.

And it just so happens that the Brain Balance Founder, Dr. Robert Melillo, will be in town Monday, November 15-Wednesday, November 17 for the grand opening of the new Indianapolis Brain Balance Center!! It’s the opportunity to hear Dr. Melillo speak — FOR FREE — and take away some priceless information about your child or a child you know with learning difficulties.

Check out www.brainbalanceindy.com and call 317-843-9200 TODAY to register for next week’s events with Dr. Melillo. You won’t want to miss out!!

Take, for example, the story about a study linking crop pesticides to ADHD. The story appeared on NBC’s “Today” and CBS’ “Early Show,” along with all three network evening news programs. Or how about researchers recently unveiling the most detailed picture yet of the genetic causes of autism.

So many children and their parents turn to medication for results, but a new facility opening on the north side of Indianapolis offers a non-medical approach to looking at these challenges and many others. Brain Balance Achievement Centers will be opening in July — bringing an individualized, comprehensive approach to helping children with neurobehavioral and learning difficulties overcome their unique challenges.

Brain Balance Achievement Centers offer the Brain Balance Program in 29 nationwide locations. This proprietary, non-medical program has been successful in helping hundreds of children reach their physical, social/behavioral health and academic potential. The centers work with children who suffer with ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourette’s, Asperger’s and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

“Our mission is to make the Brain Balance Program available to as many children as possible, so that each child may reach their greatest physical, mental, social and academic potential,” said Center Director Brad Ralston of the Indianapolis Brain Balance facility.

In order to educate parents on the basics of the Brain Balance Program®, two parent lectures will be held at 9302 N. Meridian Street, Suite 355, Indianapolis, at the following times: Wednesday, June 16, at 1:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. To register for a parent lecture, please call 317-843-9200 and ask for Julie.

The parent lectures will discuss the 12-week afterschool program, which first includes a comprehensive assessment of all areas of a child’s brain and body function. Then, by integrating physical and cognitive exercises with dietary change, Brain Balance Achievement Centers are able to correct the child’s underlying brain imbalance, improve function and reduce/eliminate negative behaviors.

The new Indianapolis facility will be located at 9510 N. Meridian Street, Suite D. For more information about Brain Balance Achievement Centers and the Brain Balance Program®, please visit www.brainbalancecenters.com.

If you or someone you know has a child or children dealing with any kind of neurobehavioral or learning difficulty, make sure to check out one of Brain Balance’s parent lectures. It will be well worth your time and start you on the path to helping your child!
