Client news: ETS Tan set for debut of new technology at October’s Smart Tan Convention

Nearly a year ago, when the world’s largest tanning bed manufacturer debuted a new line of sleek and high-tech tanning beds at the country’s largest tanning trade show, salon owners were highly impressed.

ETS Tan’s e3 tanning beds have raised the bar in the tanning industry, said Don Olevnik, who owns seven Dark Tan tanning salons in upper New York. “They produce a better tan for my clients than other beds on the market and they’re highly efficient and cost effective for my salons,” he said. “e3 tanning beds have that wow factor that instantly attracts customers. Once they experience how these beds perform, they’re even more astonished.”

Salon owners throughout the country are echoing Olevnik’s thoughts on ETS Tan’s e3 bed line. e3 technology was designed to save space and add style to salons while decreasing the costs associated with powering the beds. The beds feature a more compact design and are equipped with mood lighting, MP3 inputs and easy-to-use controls. e3 beds also feature electronic ballasts that reduce energy consumption and lower electricity costs by up to 30 percent and eco-friendly Wolff Systems lamps. “The response from tanners and salon owners to our e3 line of beds has truly been overwhelming,” said ETS Tan CEO Bill Pipp. “The line was designed to deliver a superior tan with top amenities to the customer while arming salon owners with the latest in energy-saving science, ergonomic design and eco-friendly lamp configurations to lower their operating costs and increase their profits. We’ve accomplished that. Now, we’ve set our sights on the next generation of new technology.”

ETS Tan will debut that new technology for 2011 at the 15th annual Smart Tan Convention and Trade Show Oct. 22-24 in Nashville, Tenn. The event, at the Downtown Nashville Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center, draws thousands of salon owners, industry suppliers and entrepreneurs together from throughout the nation. Pipp only offers a hint at what that technology is. “We know we have a great product in our e3 line of tanning beds. We will be delivering even more energy-saving science to salon owners who choose ETS Tan that will help them save space, add style to their operations and increase their profitability.”

True Colors Tanning exclusively offers ETS Tan tanning beds, including new e3 Legend model

After 17 years in retail, Lisa Brooking took a peek at the indoor tanning industry and decided to open a tanning salon here. A year later, she opened another one. The next year, she opened three more salons. Within five quick years, Brooking expanded her southern Indiana empire to include nine True Colors Tanning locations with a corporate headquarters in Jeffersonville. True Colors Tanning salons are located in Jeffersonville, New Albany, Sellersburg, Georgetown, Scottsburg, Floyds Knobs, Charlestown, Madison and Prospect, Ky.

Brooking’s business philosophy is simple: Provide the best customer service, offer the cleanest salons in the area and provide the best equipment and products to all customers who come in.

Five years after being recognized by One Southern Indiana Chamber and Economic Development for the fastest-growing southern Indiana business, in May True Colors Tanning was awarded the 2010 Southern Indiana Business of the Year at the chamber’s 2010 Business Awards. “I was very excited to win the award,” she said. “It’s a huge deal in this area and we were up against some rather large and established businesses with international operations. I truly believe that True Colors Tanning won because we’re a good corporate citizen.”

Brooking sits on the board of Bridgepoint Goodwill and Horseshoe Foundation Revolving Loan Fund, both in Jeffersonville. She and her staff of 75 also raise thousands of dollars each year for the local epilepsy foundation. All businesses should have a charity of choice and the foundation is ours, Brooking said. Employing civic-minded individuals who can work as a team and help their communities is important as a business owner, she said. She said she looks for employees who will dedicate themselves to the business, are serious about customer service, who’ll give back to our local communities and who have serious career goals in mind. “I also highly encourage all of my employees to network in their communities,” she said. “People know what True Colors Tanning is but I want my staff to get out in their communities and know the people.”

True Colors Tanning exclusively offers tanning beds manufactured by ETS Tan, the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of tanning beds and tanning equipment. The chain is the first in southern Indiana to offer ETS Tan’s new Legend tanning bed, part of a new line of tanning beds featuring e3 technology. e3 beds are high-output beds that require less space, run at cooler temperatures and feature electronic ballasts that reduce energy consumption and can lower operating costs by up to 30 percent. e3 beds also feature illuminating mood-mode panels that are backlit, change color and add modernistic ambiance to salons. “I love these new beds because they perform extremely well, have required absolutely no maintenance and get results for my customers by providing them a superior tan,” Brooking said. “I have always chosen ETS Tan because the company builds a workhorse of a tanning bed. But with this new line of beds, ETS Tan has combined a workhorse with a racehorse. The e3 tanning beds are truly the best in the industry.”

Across her nine salons, Brooking offers 112 ETS Tan commercial tanning beds, including the Velocity, SolarForce and Rejuvasun with Omnilux models and seven spray-tan units. Customers, she said, like the new look and superior performance of the Legend tanning bed at True Colors Tanning locations where it’s offered. “They love its appearance and are buying more and more sessions in the Legend,” she said. “We’re unique in our marketplace right now because none of our competitors offer this kind of technology. We definitely have plans on adding more e3 tanning beds in the future.”

Super Star Tanning finds a niche in Las Vegas: 24-hour tanning featuring new-to-market e3 line of tanning beds from ETS Tan

On their second of four vacations to Las Vegas last year, Kevin and Shannon Fleming noticed that for such a large city with a huge population, it was odd that no tanning salons were open around the clock. Back home in Texas, the couple had a membership to a 24-hour gym that had two tanning beds in the back. Due to her work schedule, some days Shannon Fleming couldn’t get to the gym or tan until late at night.

“That was such a convenience,” Shannon Fleming said. “We love Las Vegas and knew we wanted to move here, so we put our heads together to develop a good business plan and here we are today.”

Open nearly three weeks, Super Star 24-Hour Tanning is a 1,750-square-foot salon located about four miles off the Vegas strip. Its customer base has grown substantially week by week due to several factors, including special pricing packages offered on Facebook and its uniqueness in offering tanning 24 hours a day. But the biggest lure that has drawn new clients to Super Star 24-Hour Tanning has been the new tanning technology offered inside. The salon offers 10 new-to-market tanning beds by ETS Tan, the world’s largest manufacturer of tanning beds and tanning equipment. The new e3 line of beds feature the latest in energy-saving science, ergonomic design principles and eco-friendly lamp configurations. No other salon in Las Vegas offers the new e3 line of tanning beds.

e3 beds feature electronic ballasts that reduce energy consumption and can lower a salon’s operating costs by up to 30 percent. The beds operate at cooler temperatures, allowing salons to scale back air conditioning in the summer months, and use Wolff System lamps that contain less mercury, making them more easily disposable than non-green lamps.

The Flemings opened their salon with three Epic 242, three Ultimate Envy 134, one Legend 548 and one Legend 448 beds. Super Star Tanning also offers ETS Tan’s HP Velocity 1000, the Solar Force 652 stand-up bed and a California Tan Autobronzer. “No one in this area had seen these beds before and they’re shocked with their futuristic look, compact design and colorful appearance,” Kevin Fleming said. “Their bright lights fit Vegas and definitely increase our sidewalk appeal, something that definitely increases our bottom line.” Customers, he said, “are amazed by ETS Tan’s e3 beds long before they get inside. These beds are sleek, attractive and attention getting with their bright, moving lights. Once inside them, our customers have been overwhelmed with how well these beds perform and deliver a superior tan.

“We felt that other vendors were more expensive and offered lesser products,” he said. “Our experience with ETS Tan has been excellent. We’ve received outstanding customer service and advice as we opened our first salon and are extremely happy with the e3 line of tanning beds. So are our customers.”

During June’s 3rd annual West Coast Tanning Expo on June 14-15 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the Flemings are inviting expo attendees to visit Super Star Tanning and witness first-hand the power and style of the e3 tanning beds. A free shuttle will be available to take attendees from Caesars Palace to Super Star Tanning, just four miles off the strip. Refreshments, prizes and more will be offered at the salon.

Miss Ohio Teen USA 2010 chooses tanning responsibility in moderation as a key platform during year-long reign

Bridget Linton is used to the spotlight. Her passion for Irish dancing has landed her on stages throughout the U.S., Ireland and Scotland. A high school cheerleader and homecoming queen, today she’s a freshman member of the dance team at the University of Akron while pursuing a major in broadcast journalism. She’s also Miss Ohio Teen USA 2010.

Crowned last October, Linton tours her state as a goodwill ambassador, making appearances at schools, guest speaking and working with charities including D.A.R.E., the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. One of her platforms during her year-long reign is responsible tanning and the health benefits gained from moderate exposure to UV rays.

“Moderate exposure to ultraviolet rays is the key to tanning responsibly,” she says. “The danger of a body’s exposure to UV rays comes when the skin gets burned and what can result from sunburn. Moderate exposure for people who can develop a tan is the smartest way to maximize the benefits of exposure and minimize risks.”

Linton will advise people of all ages during her reign to learn their skin type, find out how much exposure their skin can accept without burning, protect their skin with protective lotions and wear safe, protective eyewear. She’ll also help educate Ohioans about the benefits of UV exposure past simply getting a bronze glow on the outside.

“In the U.S., people are suffering from a serious vitamin D deficiency,” said Tim Freeman who owns Altima Tan and Massage in Akron. Freeman approached Linton shortly after she was crowned to help back her responsible tanning platform. “Research has proven that UV rays trigger the synthesis of vitamin D and are responsible for the health benefits of exposure. While one doesn’t have to develop a tan to produce vitamin D and everyone should avoid overexposure to prevent skin burn, which causes skin cancer, in reality tanning is a great way to stimulate the body’s production of vitamin D.”

Freeman’s salon, in business since 2007, tans on average 260 people a day. He is an ardent supporter of tanning in moderation and tanning responsibly. He and each of his five employees strictly follow critically important tanning guidelines developed by tanning industry leader ETS Tan, the International Tanning Association, Suntan Supply and the FDA.

“Salon services are in higher demand by a wide range of individuals than ever before,” he says. “As a business owner, I want to provide the best products and services at the best prices. But above all, I want to be a responsible, reputable business. Our top priority is to ensure that every customer who chooses to come in follows established tanning guidelines and most importantly follows recommended frequency and durations of sessions according to their skin type.”

New sleek and sexy tanning beds will be unveiled tomorrow at national trade show

1009_ETSTomorrow’s the big day – the day that ETS Tan unveils its new line of sleek and sexy tanning beds. ETS Tan is in Nashville, exhibiting at the Smart Tan Convention and Trade Show through Sunday and showcasing its new e3 line of tanning beds.

I can’t show you what the beds look like until tomorrow’s post both here and on ETS Tan’s Facebook Fan Page but I can share a little about what they look like and their features. I got to see one of the nine new beds last week and it looked awesome. The beds are smaller and more compact than ever before. They’re rounded and have very elegant curves. The beds have illuminated panels that can be programmed to change color and add movement to add ambiance to a salon. Outside the beds on the back, one access panel gives way to the vast majority of the bed’s electronics and internal components so beds don’t have to be taken apart when they require maintenance. And inside the beds, a new, scientifically engineered surface hugs a tanner’s body and virtually eliminates uncomfortable pressure on the body, making each session more comfortable and more enjoyable. Tanners can plug their MP3 players into any of the beds and enjoy their favorite songs without using earbuds.

e3 stands for energy-saving science, ergonomic design and easy maintenance, by the way. A huge focus was to make the new line of ETS Tan beds more energy efficient and green, more comfortable for tanners and easy for salon owners to maintain. I’ll share photos of what the beds look like and include their key features tomorrow after Noon EST here on our blog and on ETS Tan’s Facebook Fan page.
